In the first four months of this year, Vietnam's clothing exports reached $2 billion 600 million, up 24.5% from the same period last year.

According to Vietnam's Ministry of trade and industry, in April, Vietnam's clothing export revenue reached $700 million, an increase of 11.8% over March.

Vietnam's clothing department focuses on investment in raw materials and products to increase the added value of export garments.

Vietnam's clothing and textile group (Vinatex) jointly invested 2 trillion Vietnamese Dong (US $125 million) by the national Oil and Natural Gas Corp to produce polyester fiber from petrochemical products, which is located at Dinh Vu Industrial Park, Haiphong city.

Vietnam textile and Garment Group also appealed to foreign investors to invest in the establishment of three polyester factories in the southern Dong Nai and Binh Duong provinces.

To achieve the 45000-50000 hectares of cotton cultivation area in 2010, Vietnam textile and Garment Group develops cotton growers in Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Dak Lak, Quang Ngai and Dong Nai province.

When the project is completed, Vietnam's textile and garment sector is expected to meet 15%-20%'s Polyester demand in 209 years and meet 50% demand in 2012.
