City commercial banks regard cultivating high-quality SMEs as an important strategic objective. More than 80% of their customers are small and medium-sized enterprises, and more than 70% of their credit funds are invested in small and medium-sized enterprises.

Tang Shuangning, vice chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission, made the above remarks at the "Sino US SME and Venture Capital Forum" held in June 23rd.

Tang Shuangning said that state owned commercial banks, joint-stock commercial banks, city commercial banks, urban and rural cooperative financial institutions and other banking financial institutions should vigorously develop their personal businesses and intermediary businesses, and increase their support for credit funds for small and medium-sized enterprises.

According to the commercial bank's self-report, as of the end of 2003, the balance of loans of major commercial banks for small and medium-sized industrial enterprises has reached 41379 billion yuan.

From the perspective of loan growth structure, the proportion of loans to SMEs in recent years has increased year by year.

Tang Shuangning believes that although small and medium-sized enterprises have made great achievements, their survival and development environment has been greatly improved, but they still face many difficulties and problems. From the financial point of view, we should deepen financial reform, improve financial services, establish and improve SME financing service system, and further increase financial support for SMEs.
