In 2012, if India wants to achieve the goal of national textile policy, the textile industry will need about 10 million trained workers, officials of the India Garment Export Promotion Association said on Monday.

According to India's textile policy, India's share of global textile and clothing trade will rise from 3% to 10% in 2012.

India's textile industry has the potential to generate millions of jobs.

In the next 2-3 years, the textile industry will require about 4 million operators, 2 million inspectors and 1 million management staff, said Darlie Koshy, manager of training at India garment export promotion association.

In the fiscal year 2007-08, India exported garments worth 450 billion rupees.

The textile and clothing sector contributed 4% to GDP and contributed 16% to total exports.
