According to a new study, British fashion retailers will be among the worst in record years since 2009 in the global economic downturn, and the growth of sales is expected to rebound in 2014.

A study by ActiveResilience, a British retail consultancy, pointed out that the growth rate of retail consumption of British fashion (excluding groceries and online shopping) will shrink by more than 4% next year. The largest decline in Verdict Consulting has been recorded since 1965 in 1965.

Research data also suggest that sluggish sales growth rate is accompanied by higher operating costs, which may lead to a total profit of 3 billion 600 million pounds ($5 billion 300 million) for major retailers next year, while the average operating profit will fall by 3.8 percentage points, to only 2.8%.

Verdict Consulting, director of Neil Saunders, explains that 2009 will prove that many businesses must tighten their belts and make their business miserable.

Added that consumers' purse is under enormous pressure, and that the British government's VAT measures can help improve the family budget predicament and further stimulate consumers' crazy consumption, which is an economic ignorance.

Verdict Consulting revealed that the sales of fashion clothing will decline in the next 5 years, partly due to the fact that consumers have been leading the consumer in the past 10 years.
