India Leather Export Industry Will Lay Off 500 Thousand People
As the European and American markets go from bad to worse, 500 thousand of the 2 million 500 thousand workers in India's leather export industry will lose their jobs in the next 3-4 months. Leather industry exports have been declining since September, and MukhtarulAmin, chairman of the India leather export Commission, said that exports of leather and leather goods decreased by 15% in November and 20% in December. Since September, 350 thousand to 500 thousand people have lost their jobs and 500 thousand are facing unemployment.
