The footwear industry in Huizhou is mainly private enterprises.

It started in Huang Bu and Jilong two town in Huidong county.

After more than 20 years' efforts, the shoemaking industry has grown from small to large, from weak to strong, from household handicraft to mechanized flow shop. It has been developing and growing, and has established a division, cooperation, specialization, large-scale and intensive shoemaking system, forming a production chain of industrial clusters, such as raw material supply, mold processing, assembly, decoration, product sales and so on.

The footwear industry in Huizhou increased from 3 million 710 thousand pairs in 1987 to 86 million 130 thousand pairs in 2007, and the output increased significantly.

The products are sold to more than 90 large and medium-sized cities in China and exported to more than 50 countries and regions such as Russia, Japan, South Africa, Europe and the United States, the Middle East and Hongkong.

In 2006, Huidong also won the three gold medals of "Guangdong women's shoes famous city", "Guangdong shoe material production base" and "Chinese women's shoes production base".

At present, more than 130 shoemaking enterprises in the county have passed the ISO international quality system certification, and 9 shoe making enterprises and 1 shoe material markets have entered the top 100 list of leather and footwear industry in Guangdong province. 7 shoe making enterprises have been rated as "Guangdong fashion shoes ten strong". 2 shoe products have been identified as national inspection free products, 14 shoe brands have been identified as Guangdong famous trademarks, 4 shoe products have been awarded Guangdong famous brand products, 29 shoes have been identified as well-known trademarks in Huizhou, and a number of shoes products have been selected as Huizhou's famous products. Huidong shoe industry has formed a certain brand name brand group.

Huizhou has also developed into the largest fashion shoe production base in the mainland. Huidong women's fashion shoes and Zhejiang Wenzhou leather shoes and Fujian Quanzhou sports shoes become one of the "three carriages" of China's footwear industry.
