The world polyurethane (PU) industry is developing towards the improvement of technology, products and application fields. The global PU manufacturing and consumption center is shifting to China.

Huang Maosong, chief engineer of Shanghai PU Industry Development Promotion Center, said that at present, the opportunity to build China's PU industrial base has emerged.

Based on the investigation, the Shanghai PU Industry Development Promotion Center, jointly established by large enterprises, industry associations and scientific research institutions, put forward the idea of building a PU industrial base in the Yangtze River Delta, especially in Shanghai. The conditions for the construction of the first PU Industrial Park in Shanghai Jinshan District International Chemical City are ripe.

In 2008, Shanghai will produce 590 thousand tons / year MDI and 320 thousand tons / year TDI production capacity, accounting for 66% and 60% of the total domestic capacity respectively.

Shanghai PU has the advantages of raw materials and technology to play the regional characteristics of the PU manufacturing industry in the Yangtze River Delta. Shanghai Jinshan District has decided to build Shanghai PU Industrial Park. Through several years of efforts, it has gathered all the strength of the government, enterprises, trade associations and research institutes to implement the strategy of grouping, scale and specialization. It has promoted the linkage between the upstream and downstream industries, and has gradually built several PU key raw materials and production bases in the park. There are mainly non phosgene technologies, such as isocyanate, PU tire, melt spinning spandex chip and spinning, building energy saving PU material rigid foam, fluorine containing PU material, high-performance PU elastomer material, green foam PU material and water based PU material production, and so on.
