Pakistan "dawn" 18 reported that in the 2008 fiscal year, exports of textiles and clothing in Pakistan were 10 billion 787 million US dollars, down 2.5% compared with the same period last year. Nevertheless, the export of non textiles increased rapidly, and exports increased by 8 billion 660 million US dollars, an increase of 39.9%, reaching the export target of 19 billion 200 million US dollars set out last year.

In the export of non textiles, the export of rice increased by 61.53%, the export of petroleum products increased by 40.06%, the export of leather goods increased by 24.05%, and the export of footwear increased by 8.21%.

This trend shows the natural trend of diversification of Pakistan's export commodities.

Despite the government's massive export subsidies to textiles last year, the share of textiles in exports dropped from 64% to 55%.

Analysts believe that although Pakistan's currency depreciated more than 20% last year and rival currencies such as India and China appreciated, textile exports still declined.

This shows that in the Pakistan textile sector, government subsidies are not the key. In the case of the textile industry's capacity has reached saturation, it is necessary to carry out structural adjustment to the textile industry to enhance the international competitiveness of textile exports.
