China Opposes EU'S Extension Of Anti-Dumping Measures On Chinese Shoes

The European Commission recently decided to carry out anti-dumping review on leather shoes imported from China and Vietnam to decide whether to extend anti-dumping measures, but the anti-dumping duty is still applicable during the review period.

The European Commission said in a statement on the 2 day that in view of the importance of the case, the European Commission would complete the relevant investigation procedures as soon as possible, and said that if possible, the time needed would be less than 12 months to 15 months normally required.

To protect the interests of some southern European countries, the EU has imposed a 16.5% anti-dumping duty on Chinese leather shoes and children's shoes for two years since October 7, 2006.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce said in October 3rd that China expressed regret for the EU's anti-dumping investigation on Chinese leather shoes. The Chinese government opposes the European side's extension of anti-dumping measures in any form.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce pointed out that the European footwear industry has completed structural adjustment after long quota protection plus anti-dumping measures in the past two years.

At present, the EU industry has good indicators and strong external exports, indicating that the EU industry is competitive and there is no need for further protection.

In the global supply chain management, the EU industry has gradually moved towards the high-end market and R & D design innovation, and is not directly competing with Chinese products. It is meaningless to continue anti-dumping against China.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce said that the EU importers, retailers and most Member States opposed the continued extension of the anti-dumping measures, and fully reflected the strong desire of the EU to resume normal trade in footwear products.

It is hoped that the European side will comply with public opinion and will no longer extend anti-dumping measures against leather shoes in China.
