The World'S Largest Bayer MDI Production Facility Starts In Shanghai
Bayer Material Technology officially launched the MDI (two phenyl methane diisocyanate) production plant with an annual capacity of 350 thousand tons at the Bayer Shanghai integrated base. This brand new world class factory is currently the world's largest MDI production facility. In addition, a TDI (toluene diisocyanate) plant with an annual capacity of 250 thousand tons has been built in the Bayer Shanghai integrated base. The plant is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2010.
As an important chemical raw material, MDI is particularly indispensable in the production of rigid polyurethane foam. MDI has excellent insulation properties which are incomparable to other materials in the market. It is widely applied in two fields, namely cold chain and building insulation. TDI is widely used in the production of flexible polyurethane foam, and then processed into furniture cushions, mattresses and car seats.
It is understood that China has become the world's largest polycarbonate market, and is expected to grow into the world's largest polyurethane market in 2015.
