India Last October - February This Year, Cotton Arrivals Decreased By 5.9% Over The Same Period Last Year.
India Cotton Corp reported on Tuesday that Feb. October (the first 5 months of the lunar calendar), the number of cotton arrived in India decreased by 5.9% to 23 million bales.
Data show that the number of arrivals from October 1st to February 21 decreased by 7.1% compared with the same period last year. India cotton has a weight of 170 kilos a packet. In the main cotton producing areas of central India, the quantity of cotton arrived in the same period decreased by 11% to 13 million 380 thousand packages, and the number of the largest cotton producing countries in Gujarat state decreased by 25% to 6 million packages.
The number of shipments in the central and southern regions was 3 million 550 thousand and 4 million 930 thousand, respectively, representing a decrease of 9.9% and an increase of 12% respectively.
India is the third largest cotton producing country in the world and the second largest cotton consuming country.
