The Shanxi investigation team of the National Bureau of Statistics announced the survey of crop planting intentions of 1000 households in 29 survey counties. The results showed that the planned cotton planting area decreased by 26.27% over the previous year.

Investigators analyzed that the cotton area in Shanxi showed a sharp decline this year, mainly due to the significant increase in the number of closed and closed cotton mills in 2008, the reduction of cotton reserves, the drop in cotton market prices, the decrease in cotton farmers' income and the serious setbacks in planting enthusiasm.

However, investigators believe that if the recent positive policies of the state to boost the textile industry can play a full role, the enthusiasm of farmers to cotton planting may be enhanced again.
