Financial Crisis Affects Export Of Footwear Trade

2009/4/6 0:00:00 25

A few days ago, we learned from the Fuzhou customs that the export shoes of Fujian province were US $890 million in the first 2 months of this year, up 1.2% from the same period (the same below).

Among them, rubber shoes and plastic shoes were the largest export varieties; general trade exports maintained growth, processing trade exports declined; small and medium-sized private enterprises accounted for half of the total exports.

It is understood that, influenced by the deepening of the international financial crisis, the protectionism of international trade is becoming more and more intense. As a labor-intensive footwear product, it has become the hardest hit area of trade friction.

Since the end of last year, 3 countries in Brazil, Canada and Argentina have made anti-dumping or countervailing duties on export shoes.

Data show that in the first 2 months of this year, Fujian exported 10 million 554 thousand dollars to Brazil's exports, exported 27 million 545 thousand dollars to Canada, and exported 795A million dollars to Argentina.

The total exports of the three places account for 5.2% of the total export volume of shoes exported to Fujian in the same period, though the proportion is not large, but it is easy to produce demonstration effect and trigger the follow-up of other countries or regions.

Most of the enterprises involved in this case are small and medium-sized footwear enterprises. Their experience in resisting risks and resolving trade frictions is relatively lacking, and are vulnerable to greater impact.

Experts suggest that the relevant government departments should pay close attention to the dynamic trade protection of foreign footwear products to China, establish a smooth channel for information dissemination, help enterprises improve their foresight and market adaptability in business decision-making, and give play to the role of chambers of Commerce and industry associations in coordinating enterprises' external behavior and strengthening industry self-discipline, and guide enterprises to unite to cope with foreign trade protection measures, safeguard their legitimate rights and interests, guide enterprises to change traditional distribution methods, improve product technology level and environmental protection quality, actively explore suitable brand development paths, improve core competitiveness and added value of products, and reduce trade frictions from the source.
