According to the Pakistan business records April 6th, the Pakistan textile industry expressed deep concern over the additional conditions stipulated in the proposed textile tax exemption policy for the Pakistan and Afghanistan border reconstruction area (ROZ).

Mulla, chairman of the Federation of textile industry and commerce, said that the main additional conditions of the US preferential tax policy for textile imports from the reconstruction opportunities area include: products restricted to the reconstruction opportunities area from the border between Afghanistan and Afghanistan; the value of products needs more than 35% to meet the principle of origin of the reconstruction area; cotton knitwear and cotton knitted trousers (90% of the total exports of Pakistan textiles to the US) do not enjoy duty-free treatment; and enterprises must strictly abide by the main international labor standards.

Mullah said that even if the tax exemption proposal was approved by the United States, its role in the development of Pakistan textile industry was also limited, and the original intention of the United States to eradicate armed conflicts and panic activities by promoting the economic development of Pakistan and Afghanistan could not be achieved.

The reconstruction opportunity area was put forward by the former US President Bush, aiming at developing the local economy and creating employment, thereby weakening the foundation of terrorism. However, the two motions put forward by his government were not approved by Congress.
