The Bangladesh government and clothing trade institutions have asked the India government to cancel the quota for Bangladesh's garments export to India, because Bangladesh can not benefit from it.

In September 2008, India approved Bangladesh to export 8 million garments to India in every fiscal year, aiming at balancing the trade deficit between the two countries.

However, according to experts, although the demand for Bangladesh products is very good, India's goodwill has never changed to concrete action, because India levying 8% of the countervailing duty and 4% of the special surcharge.

The cost of Bangladesh clothing entering the India market is very high, which completely offset the benefits of tariff free. Therefore, Bangladesh can only export 50% of the 8 million clothing quotas.

They also believe that the export formalities are long based on tariff quotas (tariff quotas), resulting in some exporters unwilling to export. They suggest that if India is willing to offer meaningful help, India must relax rules.

At a recent meeting, Bangladesh decided to explain its current tariff quota position and then asked India to lift its cap on Bangladesh's clothing exports.
