The government has also decided to give special preferential treatment to small and medium enterprises (SME). Under these stimulus measures, the company that exports US $3 million 500 thousand in fiscal year 2008-09 will be included in the SME category. At the same time, the government also announced that from October 2009 to June 30, 2010, SMEs could get loans from the bank without paying any deposit, and the interest rate was 10%, replacing the current 13%.

Mr Md.Fazlul Hoque, President of Bangladesh knitwear manufactures and Exporters Association, said that although the Bangladesh clothing sector has not received any direct benefits from the announced stimulus package commitments, knitting manufacturers are still trying to maintain their competitiveness in the international market.

He added that the clothing department has not received any form of government stimulus support. Recently, Bangladesh knitwear industry is experiencing a negative growth period. At the same time, because of the energy crisis, it is also facing a difficult period. However, new buyers and existing customers are very responsive to Bangladesh clothing. Therefore, we believe that the garment industry will soon recover from the crisis and will grow two digit.
