South Africa's imports of shoes from China fell by 5.46%, while toys and sporting goods dropped by 1.52%.

South African public opinion generally agreed that South Africa's total quota policy for textiles and clothing in China from 2007 to 2008 was completely defeated. The policy did not enhance the competitiveness of the local textile industry in South Africa. On the contrary, the textile products in other Asian countries replaced Chinese products to enter the South African market. Such protectionist measures could not effectively solve the existing trade problems.
