Bangladesh's Largest Investment In Textile And Leather Industry
According to statistics, as of the end of May 2010, in the first 11 months of the financial year of Bangladesh, the total investment of outsiders in Bangladesh Export Processing Zone (EPZ) amounted to US $196 million, accounting for the second largest investment since Bangladesh built export processing zones in 1983.
According to the statistics of processing zones, outsiders invest mainly from mainland China, South Korea, Taiwan, Hongkong and Japan. The main investment industries include textile industry and leather products.
At present, Bangladesh has 8 export processing zones, producing 50 kinds of famous brands in the world for various products and sporting goods. It also produces general merchandise exports to the European Union, the United States and other countries offering zero tariff preferences to Bangladesh. The 8 processing zones provide about 258 thousand job opportunities for the country, with a total investment of US $1 billion 780 million.
