As the main cotton producing area in China, Xinjiang needs a large number of flower pickups every year, especially the Xinjiang production and Construction Corps. The demand for Xinjiang production and Construction Corps is even greater. Only 500 thousand corps of flower pickup workers were introduced this year, of which nearly 60% came from the provinces and cities in the mainland.

It is reported that in 2010, the cotton planting area in Xinjiang increased by 21 million 980 thousand mu, an increase of 840 thousand mu over the previous year, an increase of 3.97%, of which the local cotton sown area was 14 million 169 thousand and 200 mu, an increase of 1 million 24 thousand and 100 mu compared with the previous year. The increase was mainly in the southern Xinjiang area; the Xinjiang corps seed area was 7 million 13 thousand mu, a decrease of 305 thousand mu compared with the previous year.

Reporters found that since August, Henan, Gansu, Shandong, Sichuan and other places picking cotton workers began to train to Xinjiang.

Due to the serious impact of weather factors on cotton in Xinjiang this year, the picking period of cotton in southern Xinjiang has been delayed for about 10 days, and the cotton picking period in the northern region has been delayed for about 20 days.

To ensure that the cotton pickers' trip to Xinjiang is safe and smooth, the railway pportation departments, the provinces and cities picking up cotton workers, all the states in Xinjiang and the Xinjiang Corps actively respond to this seasonal return to the "migratory birds army".
