According to statistics released by the Federal Statistical Bureau of Pakistan, in the first two months of the current fiscal year (July and August), Pakistan's textile exports amounted to US $1 billion 975 million, and exports amounted to US $1 billion 601 million in the same period last year, an increase of 23.34% or about US $370 million over the same period last year.

Exporters say high unit prices and rising world demand after the global recession are driving textiles.

In August of 2010, Pakistan's textile exports increased by 24% over the same period last year.

According to the current statistics, total textile exports reached US $989 million, and exports in the same period last year amounted to US $799 million, up 190 million US dollars over the same period last year.

In August, Pakistan's textile exports increased by 4 million US dollars compared with July, and textile exports amounted to US $985 million in July.

In the first two months of the current fiscal year, exports of four products, including cotton, cotton yarn, cotton yarns and tents, declined in 12 export textile products, while exports of knitwear, towels, garments, bedding, artwork and silk had increased.

It is worth mentioning that the textile industry is a major industry in Pakistan, contributing 56% of the total exports of the country. In the 2009-10 fiscal year, Pakistan's textile exports amounted to US $9 billion 200 million.
