In 1984, he returned home to his teacher and began to study the biochemical genetics of silkworm, filling in the blanks and starting to train a new generation of backbone of science and technology.

By the early 90s of last century, we had carried out research on molecular biology of Bombyx mori at the same time as Japan.

In the middle of the 90s, the Japanese scientists, when they came to China again, both they and us, felt that the distance between China and Japan was rapidly shortening! At that time, we could discuss, listen, and say!

Xia Qingyou said that in 1990, the international human genome project started, in order to quickly occupy the forefront of silk science and technology, in 1995, the teacher recommended to the state to start the silkworm genome project.

In 2000, I also resigned from Japan's Ministry of culture and special fellow to participate in our own plan.

After efforts, we independently completed the genome map of silkworm, which not only made the Japanese surprise but also shocked the world.

In 2004, the Japanese silk society invited the academician to the silk conference of Japan to give a keynote speech. At this time, it was our turn to say that they listened.

Xia Qingyou said that the silkworm genome project is just one of a series of achievements made by China and Chongqing in the past 30 years of reform and opening up.
