There are various kinds of information related to the product throughout its life cycle. This information exists in the form of files or files, collectively referred to as documents. They include design tasks, design specifications, two-dimensional drawings, three-dimensional models, technical documents, various process data files (process cards, fixture cards, work steps files, cutter location files, etc.), manufacturing resource files (equipment files, tool files, fixture files, measuring documents, etc.), contract documents, technical manuals, circuit schematic diagrams, user manuals, maintenance cards, etc. In enterprises, these documents belong to different departments. They have different static and dynamic characteristics and are managed by different personnel.

For example, the drawing part drawn by AutoCAD is DWG format, while the finite element software used by the Engineering Analyst does not support DWG format. This causes an engineering drawing to involve multiple files, multiple formats, and various forms of media. It will be very helpful for data management to describe the multiple files of the same graph as a whole, because it is of little significance to separate these files separately from each other, and is not conducive to maintaining data consistency. To this end, business object documents can be abstracted. A document object can contain multiple specific versions. The document version object is used to record changes in the content of the document. Each document version object can contain a property page object (such as the title bar of the engineering drawing) and multiple file objects, as shown in Figure 1.

A large number of documents produced by various application systems that describe products in different ways have different types (logical classification) and different formats (physical classification). At this point, it is meaningful to classify documents logically, which can be divided into general data, engineering drawings and models. Compared with general data, engineering drawings and models have many special features. Their business objects include some special descriptive attributes, such as materials or weights, which are usually not found in other documents.
