Macao Consumer Price Index (CPI) Increased By 6.86% In January 2011

Statistics and Census Bureau data show that in January 2011, the composite consumer price index (107.16) increased by 4.92% year-on-year; the increase was mainly driven by the rising index of food and non-alcoholic beverages, miscellaneous goods and services and housing and fuel.

(+6.86%), traffic (+6.71%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (+6.13%) and medical (+5.75%) price index recorded a marked increase.

Air and food prices generally rose, as well as gasoline and LPG price rises.
On the other hand, the downward trend in mobile phone service charges has led to a 8.35% year-on-year decline in the price index of telecommunications.
In January 2011, the CPI of category A (106.49) and class B (107.37) increased by 4.75% and 5.05% respectively.
In January 2011, the composite consumer price index increased by 0.93% on a monthly basis, while the price index of miscellaneous goods and services (+2.83%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (+1.93%) and pportation (+1.04%) increased considerably, while the communication price index fell by 8.03%.
In addition, the CPI of category A and B increased by 1.11% and 0.89% respectively.
