The Canadian court of international trade has just formally rejected the application of the union of the largest clothing workers' Union in China to implement the special safeguard for Chinese clothing. In October 17th, it was informed that the organization had recently requested the Canadian government to take special measures to protect Chinese textiles and clothing.

Canada's "solidarity" trade union organization pointed out that the relevant provisions of the WTO require that China's clothing export growth rate before 2008 should not exceed 7.5%. The Canadian government should negotiate with the Chinese government to limit the export volume of Chinese textiles and clothing to Canada.

It is understood that in July 7th last year, Canada's "solidarity" trade union submitted an application to the Canadian International Trade Court. It pointed out that after the abolition of textile quota, about 50000 textile and garment workers in Quebec, Canada, lost their jobs due to the influx of Chinese clothing, and demanded that the Canadian government impose restrictions on Chinese clothing imports in the next 3 years.

In October 6, 2006, after 15 months of research, the Canadian International Trade Court announced that it rejected the organization's application for safeguards for Chinese textiles and clothing.
