The Austria Economic Journal compares the inflation of EU and central and Eastern European countries.

The overall inflation rate of the 27 EU countries remained moderate, up from 2% in July 2007.

There were significant differences in inflation among different commodity categories. Education and training (9.4%), smoking and drinking (3.8%), restaurants and restaurants (3.5%), housing, water and energy (2.7%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.5%), health care (2.3%), and goods and services (2.3%) were higher than those of the general level.

Below the overall level, there are household items and maintenance (1.7%), pportation (1.6%), leisure and culture (-0.1%), clothing and shoes (-0.3%), telecommunications (-2.2%).

Inflation in most central and Eastern European countries is higher than the European Union level.

Latvia is 9.5%, Hungary is 8.3%, Bulgaria is 6.8%, Estonia is 6.5%, Lithuania is 5.1%, Romania is 4.1%, Slovenia is 4%, Czech is 2.5%, Poland is 2.5%, Slovakia is 1.2%.

Austria's inflation rate is 2%, and the euro area is 1.8%.
