The importers of clothing and footwear in the United States are expected to receive large rebates after paying different taxes on imported men's, women's and children's products.

Companies, including Totes-Isotoner, SteveMadden, Asics, ColumbiaSportswear and Target, claim that the United States government makes an accusation of unfair and discriminatory taxation because of the gender and age of the product.

For example, the import tariff of men's swimming trunks is 28%, while that of women's swimwear is only 12% of the import duties. The other female footwear (import duty 10%) is 1.5% higher than that of men's shoes (import duty 8.5%).

According to recent research data from GlobalDataMining, which provides data analysis and reporting services, about 2200 products are affected by discriminatory tariffs in the United States Tariff reconciliation form (HarmonizedTariffcodes), of which more than 300 are age discrimination and 1900 are gender discrimination.

The data also showed that over the past 2 years, American Importers overpaid such discriminatory tariffs amounting to more than US $1 billion 300 million.

In January 5th (2007), the first complaint filed against the US government by the International Trade Court in January 5th was Totes-Isotoner, which claimed that the import duty of men's leather gloves was currently 14%, while that of women's and children's leather gloves was only subject to a duty of 12.6%.

However, fewer than 50 importers in the United States have filed similar litigation cases to safeguard their interests.

According to the act of the United States, importers have to import data for the past two years in the claim suits, and protect all other imports until the end of the trial.
