Argentina Shoe Association Requires Continued Restriction On Imports

Alberto Seraro, chairman of the footwear industry association, said recently that he hoped the Argentina government would continue to restrict the import of footwear products and promote the sustained recovery of the footwear industry in the country.

At present, the shoes produced by Argentina enterprises have accounted for 85% of the domestic market, while the market share of imported shoes has dropped to 15%.

At present, Argentina enterprises produce 115 million pairs of shoes every year, and the output is expected to increase to 200 million pairs by 2020.

The financial crisis in the United States and Europe has reduced consumption in the US and Europe, and some Asian countries are looking for an alternative market for footwear exports. Therefore, the Arab government needs to strengthen its protection of its domestic market.
In recent years, the government of Argentina has implemented an import substitution strategy, adopting various restrictive measures to import products, and expanding the market share of domestic enterprises.
Some economists criticize the Argentina government's move that it will cause domestic enterprises not to think ahead, lack of international competitiveness, and at the same time will aggravate the trend of rising prices.
