Rising Clothing Prices Pushed UK Consumption Index Higher In August

Published data show that the UK consumer price index in August increased by 0.6%, an increase of 4.5% over the same period, which is in line with expectations. The core consumer price index increased by 0.7%, an increase of 3.1% over the same period last year.

The sharp rise in commodity prices exacerbated the upward pressure on prices in August, of which electricity and gas prices rose by 7.7% over the same period last year, the largest increase since July 2009.
