At the news conference of the Taiwan Affairs Office held in December 28th, Yang Yi, a spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office, revealed that according to the provisions of the framework agreement on economic cooperation across the Straits (ECFA), the early harvest of products into the trade of goods will start the second stage of tax reduction from January 1, 2012.

This is the early implementation stage of ECFA trade in goods.

Yang Yi said that from the perspective of specific product categories, all products imported by the mainland from metallurgy, medical treatment, instrumentation and auto parts will achieve zero tariff, and most of the other products, including agricultural products, light industry, chemical industry, textile, electronics and machinery, will also achieve zero tariffs.

According to reports, the mainland authorities have made adequate preparations ahead of schedule to ensure that the tax reduction can be carried out smoothly.
