Clothing Brand Water Pollution Harmful Substance

Greenpeace

For the first time, the percentage of nonylphenol polyethoxylates (NPES) washed out by 14 kinds of clothing products under simulated standard washing conditions was measured.

The results show that brand consumers, such as Abercrombie & Fitch, G-Star and Calvin Klein, pollute the public water supply in all parts of the world, including those restricted or prohibited.

"World Water Day" is coming, and international organizations and research institutes say they are concerned about water quality and water use in the future, and the textile industry is still making pollution.

Marietta Harjono, an international Greenpeace toxicant activist, said it is time for the textile industry to replace these chemicals with safe substitutes.

Harjono said: "this research proves that the textile industry is polluting the waters around the world.

Although the emissions of toxic chemicals are mainly concentrated in textile production during the manufacturing process, clothing washing and pollution are followed by products purchased around the world.

"

In 2011, Greenpeace published two reports: surveys of major clothing and sports.

clothing

The company (dirty laundry) makes textiles in China.

Hazardous substance

Emissions, and the other 15 main brands (dirty laundry, 2: hang out dry clothes) of the specific NPEs.

Greenpeace announced these reports, requiring global brands to eliminate all hazardous chemicals in their supply chain and products by 2020.

So far, these appeals have prompted sportswear giants Nike, Adidas, Puma and Lining, as well as fast fashion retailers H&M and C&A, to publicly commit themselves to "detoxification" for sportswear.

In view of the pollution problem, Greenpeace called for more brands to join in the challenge of detoxification.

For those already committed, Greenpeace requires them to have a sense of urgency to establish a clear and ambitious short-term deadline to eliminate the most harmful chemicals.
