Mr. Ahsan Bashir (Ahsan Bashir), President of the Punjab branch of APTMA, said that the increase in second-hand clothing imports had a negative impact on Pakistan's textile industry.
He urged the government to pay attention to another problem. In addition to the import of second-hand clothing that damaged Pakistan's domestic textile industry, he said that most of the new second-hand clothing was imported for the production of men's shirts.
Mr. Bashir said that the adverse effects of high interest rates and energy crises have impacted on the national textile industry in Pakistan.
He confirmed that he asked to disclose the export growth figures of the six main textile sub sectors in 2001-05 and 2006-11 years.
During the period 2001-05, interest rates were very low, and there was no electricity shortage. The annual growth rate of cotton yarn was 6%, the growth rate of cotton fabrics was 10%, bedding was 16%, knitwear was 20%, towels were 27%, and clothing was 1%.
However, during the 2006-11 years, the average growth rate of cotton yarn production was 4.7%. During this period, the high interest rate and energy crisis had a negative impact on Pakistan's textile industry.
In the same period, the average output of the bedding department was 3.19%, while the clothing department had an average negative growth of 2.4%.
Meanwhile, during the 2006-11 years, the average annual yield of knitting industry dropped to 8%, the towel industry dropped to 2.7%, and the cotton fabric department dropped to 0.74%.
