American companies are cautious about placing orders for Bangladesh companies, because in April of this year, a Bangladesh clothing workers union leader was killed.

The US ambassador told a news conference that American companies would not put their reputation at risk.

He said U.S. companies are willing to buy from Bangladesh.

However, they are concerned about labour problems in Bangladesh, the safety of factory premises and the problem of free association.

The US ambassador said labor problems and the assassination of Aminul Islam, a clothing trade union leader in April this year, were a serious concern. It was very annoying. The Federal Labor and industrial organization (AFL-CIO) submitted a petition to the US government to withdraw the GSP facilities in Bangladesh.

GSP allows convenience to allow Bangladesh to enjoy duty-free or preferential duties on garments exported to the United States.

Mr. Mozena warned in advance that if the petition was not conducive to Bangladesh, it would have a negative impact on Trade and investment in Bangladesh, due to the lack of appropriate infrastructure, strike and corruption,

Industry has been in trouble, and these factors will impede trade and investment.

Speaking of signing the agreement on Trade and investment cooperation with Bangladesh (TICFA), the US ambassador said that the main task of the forum was to identify and solve problems and enhance mutual trade and investment between the two countries.

He added that TICFA will prove to be mutually beneficial in two countries.
