In 2008 1-2, Xinjiang achieved a total import and export value of US $2 billion 116 million, an increase of 75.8% over the same period last year, higher than the national average growth rate of 52.8 percentage points. Among them, exports of US $1 billion 779 million, an increase of 82.4%, higher than the national average growth rate of 65.6 percentage points; imports of 337 million U. s.dollars, an increase of 47.3%, higher than the national average growth rate of 16.4 percentage points. In 1-2 months, the export of clothing, machinery and electrical products, shoes, textiles, agricultural products, furniture, tomato paste, automobile, fruit, coke, steel and other commodities increased rapidly. Among them, clothing exports amounted to 631 million US dollars, an increase of 1.86 times, accounting for 35.5% of the total export value; mechanical and electrical products exported 280 million US dollars, an increase of 42.9%, accounting for 15.7% of the total export value; and footwear exports of 175 million US dollars, an increase of 27.6%, accounting for 9.8% of the total export value of Xinjiang. The export volume exceeded 5 billion yuan, up 2 year-on-year. In the first two months, Xinjiang's crude oil imports amounted to 92 million 550 thousand US dollars, an increase of 95.7%, accounting for 27.4% of total imports; imports of mechanical and electrical products increased by 93.9%; iron ore imports grew 109.2%; imports of agricultural products increased by 67%; imports of waste metals increased by 2.25 times; plastic imports grew 3.4 times; cotton imports increased by 2.7 times; imports of refined oil increased by 55.8%; and the growth of imports of new and high-tech products increased. At the same time, imports of fertilizers, copper products, raw hide sheets and sawn timber were still weak, with a decrease of 19.3%, 75.2%, 10.1% and 13.8% respectively. The number of imports exceeding US $10 million was 10, an increase of 4 over the same period.
