Two new releases issued by the National Standards Committee

The national standard will be implemented in September 1, 2013.

The new standard abolished the traditional grade examination, and launched a new cotton color grading test, which is known as the "cotton standard reform" in the cotton industry. It will have a profound impact on the production, processing, inspection, trade and use of cotton in China.

The two national standards are: "first parts of cotton: sawtooth processed fine cotton" (GB 1103.1-2012) and "second parts of cotton: leather roller processing fine pile cotton" (GB 1103.2-2012), among which sawtooth processed fine wool cotton adopts color grading index system, and the roller roller processing fine staple cotton still maintains the grade index system.

The two criteria are the revision of cotton fine cotton, which was first released in 1972, and the latest revision was published in 2007.

The implementation of cotton color grading test is mainly for sawtooth processing of fine staple cotton, sawtooth processing is the main processing method of China's present fine staple cotton.

The revision of the standard includes 19 aspects, including grade, length, heterosexual fiber content, sampling rules, inspection methods, inspection sequence, group approval rules, inspection certificates, etc. the core content is to reform cotton grade index.

The cotton grade is determined by the color characteristics, maturity and quality of cotton mill. It is the main index of cotton trade price, and has been implemented for 40 years.

According to the shade and yellow depth of cotton, the color level is divided into four types: white cotton, light spotted cotton, light yellow cotton and yellow cotton. There are 13 color grades, and white cotton three is the standard grade.

The rolling quality is divided into three grades, medium and poor according to the degree of cotton appearance roughness and the degree of defects in the cotton.

Lu Yang, director of China Fiber Inspection Bureau, said that the cotton standard reform is conducive to improving the efficiency of cotton industry and promoting the upgrading of cotton industry and technological progress.

The new standard breaks down the traditional trade rules, the abolition of grade indicators, the introduction of new color level indicators and other quality indicators, and the weight of traditional index of prices has changed. It is necessary to establish a new color index difference rate, quality, length, length uniformity, breaking strength and micron index.

At the same time, it also challenges the traditional inspection concept. The traditional concept and inspection technology of cotton grade inspection that has been formed for a long time has great influence on the implementation of the cotton color grading system. The degree of change of concept will directly affect the effect of implementing the grading system of cotton color.

Lu Yang said that the direction of cotton standard reform in the next step should be towards promoting cotton varieties improvement and planting structure adjustment, strengthening cotton quality supervision and regulating the order of cotton market, promoting the reform of cotton quality inspection system, rational allocation and efficient utilization of cotton resources, improving the international competitiveness of cotton quality and products, and promoting the healthy development of cotton industry.

In order to improve the color grading system of cotton in China in the implementation of the new standard, we should actively study and introduce short fiber content, NEP index and fast and accurate testing technology.
