The recent 2007-2008 months' export figures for 7-3 months reflect the downturn in Pakistan's textile and garment industry.

Exports of raw cotton, finished goods (except towels and beads), art silk and man-made textiles increased year-on-year.

Exports of major textiles and clothing exports, such as yarn, clothing, cotton, knitwear, beaded ornaments, towels and canvas, have seen a negative growth.

Leather industry has shown its merits, and the export of leather fabrics and leather clothing has increased year by year, but the export of leather shoes has declined.

The best export product was raw cotton, and the export volume of raw cotton increased by 17.12% compared with the same period last year. The export volume increased by 18.15% compared with the same period last year, while the export volume of art silk and man-made textiles increased by 16.03%, and the export volume increased by 40.91%.

Exports of manufactured goods increased by 12.60%.

The negative growth items were cotton yarn and other yarns. The export volume of cotton yarn decreased by 8.27% compared with the same period last year, while the export of other yarns decreased by 20.46% compared with the same period last year.

The biggest drop was cotton and cotton exports decreased by 20.90% compared to the same period last year, and exports decreased by 11.01% compared with the same period last year.

The export volume of garments and garments decreased by 4.24% compared to the same period last year, and the volume of exports decreased by 12.05% compared with the same period last year.

The export volume of knitwear decreased by 10.53% compared to the same period last year, and exports decreased by 7.97% compared with the same period last year.

The export of leather fabrics has risen by 35.46%, and the export of leather clothing has risen by 24.08%.
