The United States Department of Commerce officially announced that after third censorship of Vietnam's clothing import surveillance data for six months, the United States did not find enough evidence to authorize automatic anti-dumping investigations.

The surveillance plan came into operation after Vietnam joined the WTO in January 2007.

According to the agreement on Vietnam's accession to the WTO, the US Department of Commerce has concluded third inspections of import surveillance programmes for some Vietnamese textiles and clothing products.

David Spooner, vice minister in charge of import management, said that the last survey showed that Vietnam's clothing prices were all composite requirements, and in most cases, Vietnam's price was higher than that of other major suppliers, including Central American countries.

(E) the Ministry of Commerce reviewed the data of 5 clothing products (trousers, shirts, underwear, swimsuits and sweaters) imported from Vietnam in third six month periods (February 2008 -6 months).

It was determined that Vietnamese products were not dumping on the United States during this period.

(c) the Ministry of Commerce has compared the unit price trend and import scale with other supplier countries of similar products, including Bangladesh, CAFTA-DR (Costa Rica, Dominica Republic, Salvatore, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua), Kampuchea, India and Indonesia.

According to the comparison, the US Department of Commerce concluded that the United States did not have enough evidence to initiate anti-dumping investigations on its own initiative.

This is the last review of the surveillance plan. After that, the monitoring management arrangements will be concluded.
