Mexico

Mexico's leather industry and shoemaking industry are working together to prevent the government from cancelling the import tariffs on raw and finished leather.

Sergio Castro, chairman of the tantanate Association of Mexico, told the media that in December 12th, they would submit the industry analysis report jointly drafted to the government.

Mr. Castro said that as the Mexico government was under pressure from WTO, the tariff would be abolished. However, the government should also be aware of the consequences of this. He mentioned in his suggestion that the government should encourage the processing industry to follow the successful practices of other countries.

In addition, he also mentioned that energy costs and taxes in Mexico are much higher than those in Asian countries.
