China Is Facing A Test Of EU'S New Toy Standard

Standard

On Christmas Eve, the European Union passed the new toy safety guidelines, which included improving production materials and testing standards for children's toys. Chinese toys became the key regulatory targets.

It is expected that the new measures will not only severely crack down on the sale of "made in China" in the Christmas gold season in Europe, but also make the Chinese toy manufacturers who have been in the financial tsunami for the winter.

At the plenary meeting of the European parliament held in Strasbourg, France, on the 18 th of this month, a new EU toy safety law was passed. The latest safety guidelines require the production of children's toys to prohibit carcinogenic, mutagenic and reproductive toxic substances, as well as toxic heavy metals such as lead and mercury.

In addition, the new guidelines also put forward strict requirements for toy design, marking, production, importer responsibility and market supervision, especially the heavy metal content in toys is further reduced to 50% of the original EU standard.

European Parliament officials say the new guidelines will come into effect 20 days after the official text.

Christmas is approaching, and this period is usually the prime seller of toy sales. The European Parliament passed the bill on Christmas Eve, which will not only impact the toy sales in the market, but also seriously affect the toy manufacturers in China.

ArleneMcCarthy, chairman of the European Union's internal market and Consumer Protection Committee, said that the quality of Chinese toys has made great progress, but because Chinese made toys occupy most of the European market, its regulation is still the focus.

It is learnt that the proportion of electric toys in China's exports to the EU is relatively large. The implementation of the new standard will increase the cost of production and testing of these products.

According to the insiders, most Chinese toy manufacturers are engaged in processing export trade, producing products for foreign toy manufacturers such as the US and Japan. At the bottom of the industrial chain, they are most vulnerable to economic crisis, technological barriers and environmental barriers.

The European market has recently launched a hidden technical barrier to increase the difficulty of Chinese exports. Chinese toy companies are facing a more severe test.
