The ancient tombs of Astana are located about 40 kilometers southeast of Turpan, and Gucheng, south of Gao Chang, is a public cemetery of the residents from the Western Jin Dynasty to the Gao Chang City in the Tang Dynasty.

Because the climate of the cemetery is very dry, the water level of the cemetery is more than 20 meters from the ground, and the tombs are generally between 3 and 5 meters underground. This makes many relics and ancient corpses that are afraid of damp and rotten in the tomb remain intact.
