Germany's clothing production in Egypt has a history of more than 30 years, and its production has increased significantly since 2021. Last year, Germany's clothing imports from Egypt increased by 11%. The German Fashion Association, which represents 350 enterprises in the German fashion industry, said that its member enterprises not only produce in Egypt, but also in Tunisia, Morocco and other North African countries, because they are closer to the European market.

The spokesman of the association also mentioned that, especially during the epidemic, the uncertainty of Asian logistics increased, prompting companies to choose a closer location for production. The sea route from North Africa to Europe is short and the cost is low, which is more advantageous than Asian goods passing through the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. Although Bangladesh, Vietnam and Turkey are still the main textile suppliers to Germany, their supply has decreased year by year. North Africa has become a new production area due to both convenient transportation and risk diversification.

The rise of North Africa's textile industry benefits from the demand of Europe and the United States. As the chairman of the Egyptian Garment Export Committee said, Egypt is improving its production capacity and training talents, making the textile industry one of the country's important sources of foreign exchange.
