Data released by customs last week showed that textile yarns, fabrics and products exported to US $31 billion 720 million, an increase of 26.8% in the 1~6 months this year, and exports of clothing and accessories 49 billion 960 million US dollars, an increase of 3.4%, and the export growth rate has further slowed down.

In response, Gao Hucheng, Vice Minister of Commerce, said in public yesterday that the Ministry of commerce is actively investigating and will launch policies at the right time.

The export of clothing is much lower than that of textiles.

According to the preliminary statistics of the first textile network, in 2007, 20% of the textile and garment enterprises were pformed and eliminated. Fan Min, editor in chief of the textile business week of the Ministry of Commerce, said that conservatism is expected that by 2010, about 50% of the textile enterprises will be pformed or eliminated.

In addition, from the export data, clothing exports are much lower than those of textiles. The industry believes that this is related to the large number of textile enterprises moving out and the impact of garment processing.

In the month of June, clothing and clothing accessories exported $9 billion 870 million, down 15% compared with the same period last year, and exports of textiles, yarns, fabrics and products increased by 5 billion 610 million US dollars, an increase of 22.2%.

A survey conducted by the General Administration of Customs shows that at present, more than 400 Chinese textile enterprises have invested in factories in Kampuchea, especially in Guangdong textile enterprises.

This year, the export of Zhejiang textile enterprises is strong, and Guangdong's exports have dropped sharply.

In 1~5 months, Zhejiang exported 15 billion 470 million US dollars, an increase of 26%; Guangdong 12 billion 210 million US dollars, a decrease of 13.6%; Jiangsu's US $10 billion 760 million, an increase of 16.6%.

Since the beginning of this year, the export performance of China's textile and clothing products to the US has been depressed, but the growth rate of the EU market is very fast.

The Chinese textile import and Export Chamber of Commerce believes that the government should closely communicate with the United States to ensure that its restrictions on the 21 categories of textiles exported to the United States were lifted on time in December 31, 2008.

It is learnt that at present, major textile groups in the United States have put forward various plans, including countervailing investigations, anti-dumping investigations, self initiated anti-dumping measures based on monitoring plans, specific safeguard measures for products (Clause 421), and so on, to deal with textiles and garments from China after the lifting of the ban at the end of this year.
