Brazil Strengthens Anti-Dumping Against China And India

Anti Dumping In BrazilChina

The Brazil government has sharply increased the use of anti-dumping duties, mainly targeting products in China and India.

Brazil's currency, Real's strong stimulus to imports, has created difficulties for its manufacturers.

Brazil is one of the fastest growing consumer markets in the world and one of the world's largest producers of automobiles and televisions, the report said.

However, Brazil's currency Real has risen nearly 30% in the past two years, nearly double that of 2002, which has weakened the international competitiveness of some industries in Brazil.

Data released by the Ministry of industry and trade of Brazil showed that in July July 2007, Brazil used anti-dumping duties in 20 cases, compared with 5 in the previous year.

The report points out that most of the protective measures are imported products from China and India. The two low-cost manufacturing countries are Brazil's allies in the Doha round of Global trade negotiations.
