Looking For Opportunities In India Leather King Crisis

2008/12/4 0:00:00 45

Calcutta, a port city in eastern India, is the largest city of overseas Chinese in India.

For various reasons, there are now only more than 3000 Chinese and overseas Chinese here.

Among these Chinese, there is a "leather king" who is Li Zhixiong, director of Calcutta Hesheng skin factory.

Li Zhixiong, 49, has been engaged in leather production and processing industry for 27 years.

When he took over the leather factory from his parents, the factory was only more than 40, and now it has developed to more than 260 people. Its leather products are sold at home and abroad, with annual sales of nearly 20 million dollars.

In an interview with reporters, Li Zhixiong said that more than 1/3 of his leather products were sold to European and American countries.

Foreign brand manufacturers take samples to order in his factory. Their factories are produced according to the requirements and authorization of foreign manufacturers, and are then sold to various parts of the world with foreign brand labels.

Because of its good quality, his products are always in short supply.

Speaking of the secret of his success, Li Zhixiong said that he bought the first class domestic cowhide and imported it with advanced leather equipment, and maintained close ties with foreign counterparts in the leather making industry. He often went to Europe and America to learn about quotations and business negotiations. Therefore, the products produced by his factory were always the most popular products in the world.

In addition, Li Zhixiong is particularly proficient in business.

Since he graduated from the University of leather at the age of 22, he has been producing the first line of work, and he knows all the production processes well.

Even if the cause is prosperous today, he still goes deep into the production workshop every day to understand the production situation, solve the work difficulties and carry out quality supervision.

Li Zhixiong, who was usually very low-key, said that in recent years, he had experienced the biggest challenge of life, that is, forced to move the factory to the designated industrial park in the suburbs.

The Calcutta municipal government believes that the TAC area, which is relatively concentrated in China, causes serious environmental pollution due to the leather industry. Therefore, all leather factories are ordered to move to the leather industrial park 20 kilometers away, otherwise heavy penalties will be imposed.

Many small Chinese leather factories are unable to reinvest, so they have to change careers or even apply for emigration.

But Li Zhixiong believes that this is both a challenge and an opportunity. Therefore, he resolutely seized the opportunity to invest heavily in the designated leather industrial park with some preferential loans from the government to create a new world for leather production.

So far, he has invested $about 3000000 in the new industrial park, including the construction of two large factories and equipment renewal.

He has imported leather processing equipment from Italy, China and Germany to keep high quality and high production in leather industry, and become one of the largest tanning enterprisers in the region.

He told reporters that his factory in the new industrial area was basically completed and has recently begun to go into production.

By the end of this year, all of his factories will be moved from the dam area to the New District, and he is looking forward to a new stage of production in the future.

The head of the Calcutta Chinese Federation told reporters that Li Zhixiong not only had a dedication, but also had compassion and enthusiasm for the Chinese public welfare undertakings. He often donated money to the economically difficult Chinese, and the local people called him a "good man".

After China suffered floods in 1998, Li Zhixiong donated a large sum of money to the victims in China.

He gave the factory workers a good deal, and gave them medical and old-age insurance, which was deeply respected and loved by the local workers in India.

Li Zhixiong told reporters that he is a person who is never satisfied with the status quo and is not afraid of challenges because there are opportunities in challenges.

Therefore, apart from running leather industry, he has expanded his business to trade and real estate in recent years.

He has bought a lot of land in downtown Calcutta, and is preparing to build a tourist attraction similar to Shenzhen's "World Park", attracting tourists from all over the country to visit Calcutta.

He said that with the continuous development of relations between India and China, the status and living conditions of the Chinese have also improved.

The leather industry in India still has huge market potential, and the new factory is gradually moving to the right track. He has full confidence in his cause.
