Mr Elangovan, Minister of state textiles of India, confirmed to India's textile and garment industry that China did not pose a threat to India's local manufacturing companies.

He also said that there was no specific investigation to assess the impact of imports of textiles and clothing from China, because the volume of imports was small.

However, a few industry associations submitted a memorandum, claiming that cheap imports led to the reduction of job opportunities in India's textile and garment enterprises.

Mr Elangovan 說，2008年10月紡織服裝工業(yè)出口減少 16.5％，但4月－9月，出口依然保持增長勢頭，較上年同期增長5.25％。
