The United States Department of agriculture's agricultural counsellor reports that Uzbekistan's cotton production forecast has dropped to 4 million 900 thousand packs in the 2008/09 market year.

At present, exports are estimated at 3 million 300 thousand packages in 2008/09, creating the lowest export volume for many years because of insufficient global demand.

Due to weather conditions and insufficient irrigation water resources, farmers in Uzbekistan encountered many difficulties in 2008, and the target of seed cotton production set by the state may not be completed.

However, due to the above reasons, the actual seed cotton yield may be lower than the official target.

According to the latest government decree, the cotton planting area in 2009/10 will be reduced by 75000 hectares to 1 million 315 thousand hectares, so the official seed cotton production target will be reduced to 440 tons.

However, the world's cotton and textile trade is hard to avoid the impact of the global economic crisis, and Uzbekistan's textile industry is also unfavourable.

The report of the agricultural counsellor predicted that the export of lint was 3 million 300 thousand bales in 2008/09, due to the reduced demand in consumer countries and the decline in domestic production in Uzbekistan.

Although production is reduced, exports and domestic demand will lead to higher inventory usage than innovation.
