Cotton In Australia Seems To Recover From Disaster
美國農(nóng)業(yè)部農(nóng)業(yè)參贊發(fā)布報告，澳大利亞棉花產(chǎn)量似乎正在從長期嚴重旱災(zāi)中逐漸恢復(fù)過來。2008/09 年總產(chǎn)量預(yù)期為 140 萬包，大大高于上年的 62 萬包最低記錄。但是，報告稱，雖然產(chǎn)量預(yù)期被上調(diào)，但依然低于10年平均產(chǎn)量 240 萬包。2008/09 年拾花季節(jié)將于 3 月開始，但直到4月才能達到高潮。

With the increase of precipitation, the planting area may be larger than the previous prediction, and the yield per unit area is expected to exceed the 10 year average.
The report has raised the planting area in 2008/09 slightly, and the unit yield is expected to be slightly higher than the last report. Despite these adjustments, the output is still below the long-term average yield, but it has been much higher than last year's lowest record.
Precipitation in major cotton growing areas increased. The quality of cotton may decline.

The report adjusted the planting area in 2008/09 to 164000 hectares. It indicates that the minimum area has been recovered since last year. The improvement of precipitation and the increase of irrigation water resources have led the agricultural counsellors to raise their forecast this year.

The report forecasts that 2008/09 per unit area will yield 8.5 per hectare per hectare. The average yield is 8.02 bags per hectare over 10 years.
Insiders predict that the planting area will reach 16000 hectares. Nevertheless, 2008/09 is expected to continue to raise its production per unit area.

Cotton production is expected to reach 1 million 400 thousand packages in 2008/09, much higher than that of the previous year's 620 thousand pack low yield record. With the expansion of planting area and the high yield per unit area, cotton production will be greatly increased. However, although the yield forecast has been raised, the total cotton output is still below the average yield of 2 million 400 thousand in 10 years.

The total export volume of cotton in 2008/09 is expected to be 1 million 150 thousand bales. The report said that most 2008/09 cotton could be processed and exported next year, so the growth in export volume tends to lag behind and increase in output.
