The American Shoe And Clothing Association Welcomes The Government'S Increased Funding For Product Safety.

The American clothing and Footwear Association (AAFA) welcomes the legislation signed by President Obama, that is, to raise funds for the consumer product safety committee (CPSC).

Approved funds increased by $25 million on the 2008 fiscal year, which is a necessary expenditure for the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The committee needs the funds to continue fully implementing the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) in 2008, which greatly changed the consumer product safety system.

"After years of budget cuts, the US Congress wisely provides more funds for the consumer product safety commission to try to get unsafe products out of the market," said Mr. Kevin Burke, President and chief executive officer of AAFA. "Because of the recently issued CPSIA, the agency has been implementing and implementing new regulations in a strained manner, and educates the undertakers of common interests.

The increased funding will provide additional resources for CPSC to make it more effective in managing new regulations under CPSIA, and provide much-needed guidance for the clothing and footwear industry.

I am very pleased that President Obama and Congress have made the money available.

2009 the total Appropriation Bill allocated to the consumer product safety commission amounted to $105 million, which is more than $17 million earmarked for new institutions. The task of the new organization is to carry out the responsibilities and requirements of CPSIA.

At the same time, the law also includes a fund to increase the staff of the Embassy in the United States to build a bridge between American business and enterprises and Asian supply chain manufacturers to meet safety regulations and expectations.

"Although the direction of this funding is correct, there is still more work to do to help our clothing and footwear industry adapt to the new regulations," Burke said.

"All stakeholders are interested in protecting consumers and, more importantly, children.

However, the consumer product safety committee lacks the resources to effectively implement the new requirements, plus CPSIA's short duration, language equivocation, and new standards are not listed as risk assessment factors. These problems put the company in the economic risk and did not enhance the safety of consumers in real sense.

Congress and consumer product safety committees need to take measures to establish constructive dialogue to discuss the serious consequences of this legislation on our industry.
