India Cotton Prices Continue To Fall, Cotton Exporters Seek Help From The Government

2008/11/19 0:00:00 132

According to New Delhi's November 18th news, the India Economic Times reported on Thursday that India's cotton exporters are seeking emergency assistance from the federal government in response to falling cotton prices.

The newspaper quoted the chairman of the India Cotton Association P.D.Patodia as saying: "emergency assistance measures are necessary to save the rapidly deteriorating market situation."

In India, cotton prices have fallen 54% from their 12 year high in March.

Last year, India's cotton exports reached a record level of 2 million tons, with a total value of 150 billion rupees.

The report said that the procurement of government procurement by the lowest purchase price set by the state was also the reason for the decline in cotton prices.
