Pakistan: Import Restrictions Hurt More Than Financial Crises

2009/3/3 0:00:00 36

Pakistan's commerce minister Mr Ghani said Pakistan is striving to win the EU market's GSP import treatment for the textile industry.

He said that import restrictions had greater harm to Pakistan's exports than the international crisis.

In addition to diversifying the market, Pakistan is still striving to reach a free trade agreement with other countries.

He also said that the government is working hard to reach a free trade agreement with Indonesia, and is also negotiating with the European Union and the United States.

However, export enterprises must show greater sense of responsibility.

He regretted that although the free trade agreement had been reached with China, Pakistan exporters did not make full use of the advantages of the agreement. The export of Pakistan sheets to China was still zero, and in fact, China's import tariffs were also zero.

He urged exporters to communicate with the national customs office on dumping matters.
