American Clothing Association: The United States Home Textile Wear Ban DMF
Following the decision of the product safety committee of the European Commission to vote in January 29th to prohibit the import of DMF and the approval of the European Parliament, the United States clothing and Footwear Association (AAFA) recently released the revised version of its global restricted substances list RSL (Restricted Substances List) Fourth Edition, including the latest DMF banned by the European Union (two methyl fumarate). The final products involved mainly include household textiles, clothing and footwear.
DMF is a chemical raw material. It is widely used in related fields as an efficient and low toxic mildew inhibitor. According to the relevant experts, DMF has low toxicity, no mutagenicity, almost no residue in animals, and good anti mould and antibacterial effect. But the substance is sublimated at room temperature with fumigating, and can cause severe eczema and burns after skin contact. Foreign media have reported many times that the use of fumaric acid two methyl ester as a mildew inhibitor in the sofa and leather shoes exported to Europe has led to an allergic reaction to consumers. France, Spain and other European Union countries have announced the ban on the use and import of DMF related products at the end of last year.
Here, the inspection and quarantine department reminds the relevant US textile enterprises to thoroughly inspect the used mould inhibitors and try to screen non-toxic, environmental friendly and small irritant fungicides.
At the same time, we should also pay more attention to the relevant technical regulations in the exporting countries, and carry out corresponding improvement as soon as possible, so as to prevent the export of products from being blocked due to exceeding the limit.
